PDP Disowns Unauthorized X Handle: A Call for Caution and Clarity

On June 27, 2024, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) addressed a significant issue concerning misinformation and unauthorized use of the party’s identity on social media. An X handle named “PDP 2027 @PDPGovernment” has been parading itself as an official support page for the PDP, spreading views and opinions purportedly on behalf of the party.


The PDP leadership has unequivocally disowned this handle, clarifying that “PDP 2027 @PDPGovernment” is neither an official nor an affiliated account. The party has stressed that any information disseminated through this handle does not represent the official stance, views, or policies of the PDP.


Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, emphasized that the party has not authorized any group or individual to create social media handles for disseminating PDP news, history, heritage, and administration. This step is crucial to maintaining the integrity and authenticity of the party's communication channels.


Unauthorized accounts like “PDP 2027 @PDPGovernment” pose significant risks by potentially spreading misinformation and confusing the public regarding the party's official positions. In the age of digital information, where social media plays a critical role in shaping public opinion, it is vital for political parties to ensure that their official communications are easily identifiable and trustworthy.


To mitigate the spread of misinformation and ensure that supporters and the general public receive accurate updates, the PDP has reiterated the importance of following its verified social media handles. The official channels for authentic PDP news and updates are:
