Governor Aliyu Responds to Vice President Shettima: "Check Facts Before Commenting on Sensitive Matters"

Governor Aliyu of Sokoto State has urged Vice President Kashim Shettima to verify facts before making public statements on sensitive national issues. The governor's remarks came in response to Shettima's recent comments regarding the protection of the Sultan of Sokoto.

Vice President Shettima had publicly expressed concerns about the need to safeguard the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, amid rumors of a possible plan to depose him. These comments sparked significant discussion and speculation.

Through his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, Governor Aliyu clarified that there was no truth to the rumors about deposing the Sultan. He emphasized that Shettima should have reached out to him directly to verify the information before making any public statements.

“The fact of the matter is that there was never any attempt to sack the Sultan. The Sultan enjoys all the powers he is entitled to, and the state government has never denied him any of his freedom or rights,” Governor Aliyu stated.

Governor Aliyu highlighted the importance of fact-checking, especially when it comes to sensitive national matters. He underscored the potential consequences of spreading unverified information and the importance of maintaining clear and accurate communication.

The governor reiterated that the Sultan remains in good standing, enjoying all the privileges and powers associated with his position. The state government continues to support the Sultan, ensuring his freedoms and rights are fully respected.

Governor Aliyu's call for Vice President Shettima to verify facts before making public comments serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate information in maintaining national harmony and trust. It also reaffirms the stable relationship between the Sokoto State government and the Sultan, dispelling any unfounded rumors about the latter's position.
