Governor Fubara Gives Account of His One Year In Office

  


Governor Siminalayi Fubara has made significant strides in his first year, even amidst numerous challenges. As the Governor often emphasizes, the essence of his governance truly began in February, just four months ago. Here are some of his notable accomplishments:


Infrastructure Development

1. **Port Harcourt Dual Carriage Ring Road:** Launched the 50.15 km project with extensive ongoing work across its six sections, with three flyovers nearing completion.

2. **Elelenwo Internal Roads, Obio Akpor LGA:** Progressing steadily.

3. **Omuakali-Eberi Road, Omuma LGA:** Work in progress.

4. **Aleto-Ebubu-Eteo Road:** Completed 10 km road in Eleme LGA.

5. **Igbu-Ehuda Internal Roads, Ahoada-East:** Completed.

6. **Bori City Internal Roads, Khana LGA:** Nearing completion.

7. **Egbeda Internal Roads Extension:** 12.128 km road completed in Emohua LGA.

8. **Woji-Aleto-Alesa-Refinery Link Road:** 6.5 km road with a 200-meter bridge, ongoing.

9. **Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road:** Completed Andoni section to Ngo town.

10. **Opobo Ring Road Project:** Advanced stage of completion.

11. **Elele-Omudioga-Egbeda-Ikiri-Omoku Road:** Ongoing dualisation project.

12. **Abua-Agba-Nedele Link Bridge:** 240 meters bridge under construction.

13. **Rehabilitation of Key Roads in Old Port Harcourt:** Including Degema Street, Harbour, and Reclamation Road.

14. **Etche-Igbodo Road Extension:** 3 km road linking Rivers and Imo State, awarded to Setraco Nigeria Limited.


 Health Sector Improvements

15. **Medical Personnel Promotions:** Implemented promotions, step increments, and new hazard allowances.

16. **Health Worker Recruitment:** Over 1000 new health workers recruited.

17. **Contributory Health Insurance Scheme:** Launched with an appointed Executive Secretary.

18. **Primary Healthcare Centers:** Rehabilitated and reopened across LGAs.

19. **Zonal Hospitals Reactivation:** Reactivated zonal hospitals.

20. **Healthcare Boards:** Established boards for the Teaching Hospital, Hospital Management, and Primary Healthcare.

21. **Scholarships:** Increased scholarships for Rivers indigenes at PAMO Medical University.


 Education Advancements

22. **Rivers State University Grant:** Released ₦2bn for the institution.

23. **Free WAEC/SSCE Registration:** Implemented free registration and distributed textbooks and materials.

24. **Governing Councils:** Constituted councils for Rivers State University, Ignatius Ajuru University, and Elechi Amadi Polytechnic.

25. **School Completion:** Finished construction of several secondary schools, including those in Alesa, Okoroma, and Okarki.


 Civil Service Enhancements

26. **Promotion for Civil Servants:** Implemented long-overdue promotions and financial entitlements.

27. **Christmas Bonus:** Granted ₦100,000 to over 40,000 civil servants.

28. **Permanent Secretaries:** Appointed 16 new secretaries and provided SUVs for official use.

29. **State Secretariat Renovations:** Restored water supply, functional elevators, and ongoing renovations.

30. **Minimum Wage Implementation:** Approved ₦30,000 minimum wage and wage award for local government workers.

 Economic and Community Development

31. **SME Fund:** Signed ₦4 billion agreement with the Bank of Industry to support local businesses.

32. **Automobile Spare Parts Centre:** Launched the Port Harcourt International Automobile Spare Parts Trading and Commercial Centre.

33. **Housing Project:** Initiated the construction of 20,000 housing units for low-income earners.

34. **Sports Development:** Funded and rewarded local sports teams, including Rivers Queens Handball Team and Rivers Hoopers Basketball Team.

35. **Transport System:** Re-activated the Rivers State Transport Company and refurbished the mass bus transport system.


 Inherited Projects Completed

1. **Schools and Roads:** Completed various secondary schools and significant road projects across several LGAs.

2. **Healthcare Facilities:** Commissioned new hospitals and health centers.

3. **University Projects:** Completed the University of Port Harcourt Convocation Auditorium.
