EXPOSED: Senator Andy Uba, Daughter, and Associates Accused of Defrauding Doris Uboh of N400 Million Over NDDC MD Promise
A shocking fraud case involving former Senator Andy Uba, his daughter, and associates has come to light as sources reveal how they allegedly swindled ex-lawmaker Doris Uboh of N400 million. The group reportedly promised Uboh the position of Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) through then-First Lady Aisha Buhari, according to Sahara Reporters.
The case, currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja, was initiated after a petition to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun. Court documents filed by Abdulrashid Sidi on October 10, 2024, accuse Uba, his daughter Crystal Uba, and Benjamin Etu of conspiracy and fraud. Another accomplice, Hajiya Fatima, who is allegedly close to Aisha Buhari, remains at large.
In 2022, Uba and his associates reportedly assured Doris Uboh that they could secure her appointment as NDDC MD for a fee of N400 million. Sources disclosed that Uboh transferred the money through a bureau de change (BDC) associated with Uba, which was allegedly used to convert the funds into dollars.
BDC operators later confessed under interrogation that they frequently handled transactions for Uba. Crystal Uba was also arrested while attempting to withdraw part of the money. Meanwhile, Hajiya Fatima is said to have refunded N50 million out of the N200 million she reportedly received from the scheme.
Uba initially obtained a court order from Justice S.B. Belgore of the FCT High Court to prevent his arrest. However, following another petition challenging the perpetual order, the case was reopened, leading to his trial. Justice Belgore later struck out a separate case filed by Uba for lack of diligent prosecution in September 2024.
Further investigations revealed that Uba allegedly used Aliko Dangote's name to defraud another individual of a substantial sum. Reports also claim that a man stabbed Uba at the home of a former Police IG after being duped of N2 billion with promises of a government position.
The trial of Uba and his associates has raised concerns about political fraud and abuse of influence in Nigeria. The case highlights the importance of accountability in public office and the need for stringent measures to deter similar schemes.
