Wike Stands Firm: No Reconciliation with Governor Fubara Amid Rivers Crisis

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has made it clear that there will be no reconciliation with Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, despite ongoing tensions between the two political figures. Wike, speaking during a media briefing to mark his one year in office, emphasized his commitment to fulfilling President Bola Tinubu's mandate, distancing himself from any efforts to resolve the rift with Fubara.

The conflict between Wike and Fubara has been ongoing since Fubara assumed the governorship, leading to significant divisions within the Rivers State House of Assembly and creating factions that have only deepened the crisis. Despite intervention attempts by President Tinubu and other key political figures, the situation remains unresolved.

Wike expressed his disappointment, stating that he had supported Fubara's rise to power without any regrets, but now feels betrayed by the governor’s stance. Drawing a parallel to former Minister Rauf Aregbesola’s separation from Tinubu, Wike underscored that political loyalty can be fleeting.

"There's no going back," Wike asserted, highlighting that his focus remains on his duties as FCT Minister, rather than on mending fences with Fubara. He acknowledged that while some may not approach politics with integrity, he remains steadfast in his principles.

The fallout between Wike and Fubara marks a significant shift in Rivers State's political landscape, with Wike making it clear that he will not be drawn back into the fray, choosing instead to concentrate on his role in Abuja.
