Electricity Distribution Companies Set for Another Tariffs Increase for Premium Customers, Asuring Improved Service Levels
This headline focuses on the tariff revision for premium customers (Band A) by electricity distribution companies, highlighting their commitment to enhancing service quality without specifying the exact tariff amount.
Electricity consumers in Nigeria are set to experience a slight increase in tariffs as four major distribution companies (DisCos) have adjusted rates for premium customers. Effective July 1, 2024, the tariff for Band A customers has been raised from N206.80 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to N209.5 kWh.
Kaduna DisCo, Port Harcourt DisCo, Ikeja Electric, and Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) Plc each issued separate statements confirming the tariff adjustment. They clarified that while Band A tariffs have been revised upwards, rates for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.
According to Kaduna DisCo, customers on Band A feeders will continue to receive between 20 to 24 hours of electricity daily, in line with the service-based tariff regime. Similarly, Port Harcourt DisCo emphasized that the minimum guaranteed supply of 20 hours per day remains unaffected.
Explaining the rationale behind the tariff adjustment, Ikeja Electric stated that the increase aligns with the service-based tariff framework aimed at sustaining improved service delivery across all feeder bands within its network.
This adjustment comes shortly after a previous tariff reduction in May, when Band A rates were lowered to N206.80 kWh. Prior to that, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had approved an increase from N66 to N225 kWh for Band A customers in April.
The DisCos reaffirmed their commitment to efficient service delivery despite the tariff adjustment, ensuring that customers across all bands receive reliable electricity supply as stipulated.
