Suspected Killer of UNIBEN Graduate Arrested by Edo State Police

In a significant breakthrough, the Edo State Police Command has arrested the suspected killer of Glory Adekolure, a University of Benin (UNIBEN) graduate. This arrest comes 15 days after Adekolure's tragic death, bringing some relief to her grieving family and the community.

Glory Adekolure, a 22-year-old final-year Chemistry student at UNIBEN, went to submit her project and complete her final clearance on June 13, 2024. However, her lifeless body was later discovered under a tree in the Iyowa Community of Benin City, near her residence. The discovery of her remains sent shockwaves through the university and the local community, prompting a swift investigation by the police.

The suspect was apprehended in Asaba, Delta State, following an extensive manhunt. Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, announced the arrest during an interview with Channels Television. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, confessed to the murder of Glory Adekolure and eight other young women.

"I am happy to inform the good people of Edo State and the good people of Nigeria that the killer of Glory Adekolure has been apprehended," said Commissioner Adegboye. "He was apprehended in Asaba, Delta State. After killing Glory, he ran away, knowing we were trailing him. Due to the painstaking investigations of our anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit, he was arrested and confessed not only to the killing of Glory Adekolure but also to the killing of eight other similar ladies."

While the suspect has confessed, the police are continuing their investigations to uncover more details about the murders. The suspect has not yet been paraded publicly, as authorities aim to gather more evidence and possibly connect the dots between the multiple cases he has confessed to.

The arrest has brought a mixture of relief and sorrow to the UNIBEN community and the broader public. The tragic death of Glory Adekolure, a young woman with a promising future, highlights the urgent need for increased security and safety measures for students and residents in the area.

The Edo State Police Command's swift action and thorough investigation have led to the capture of a dangerous individual, potentially preventing further tragedies. As the investigation continues, the community awaits justice for Glory Adekolure and the other victims.
