Senate President Akpabio Refutes Claims of Proposing New Aircraft for Tinubu and Shettima

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has firmly denied reports suggesting that the Senate is proposing the procurement of a new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. These allegations, Akpabio asserts, are unfounded and stem from misinformation spread by propagandists.

Senator Akpabio addressed these claims during a press briefing in Maiduguri. The Senate President, who was in Maiduguri to lead a delegation on a condolence visit to Senator Tahir Monguno following the death of his father, categorically dismissed the rumors. He emphasized that neither he nor the Senate has made any such proposal.

In his statement, Akpabio identified the source of the misinformation as "propagandists and fifth columnists" who aim to discredit the Senate's work. He reassured the public that the Senate is dedicated to supporting President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda through effective legislation. Akpabio urged Nigerians to disregard these false reports and focus on the progress being made by the current administration.

Highlighting the improved security situation in Borno State, Akpabio credited President Tinubu's administration for the return of peace in the region. He encouraged the citizens of Borno and Nigerians at large to continue supporting and praying for the administration. Akpabio expressed optimism that the leadership of Tinubu and Shettima will usher in a period of prosperity and wealth for the nation.

The allegations first surfaced in media reports, suggesting that the Senate would approve the purchase of new aircraft for the President and Vice President, despite the economic challenges faced by many Nigerians. Akpabio refuted these claims, stating that he was not even in the country when these reports emerged but was actually in Zanzibar, Tanzania. He reiterated that such reports are baseless and should be ignored.
