Lagos Launches Scientific Innovation Council, Cybersecurity Advisory Board with N1bn Grant

In a bold move to drive technological advancement and enhance cybersecurity, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a N1 billion grant to establish a State Science, Research, and Innovation Council (LASRIC) and a Cybersecurity Advisory Board. This initiative underscores the administration's commitment to fostering innovation, protecting the state's digital ecosystem, and positioning Lagos as a leading hub of technological excellence in Africa.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s approval of the N1 billion grant marks a significant investment in the future of Lagos. The establishment of LASRIC and the Cybersecurity Advisory Board aims to address local challenges through cutting-edge research and innovation. These bodies will play a critical role in enhancing the state's capacity to respond to technological demands and cyber threats.

The creation of LASRIC and the Cybersecurity Advisory Board will focus on building partnerships with both local and international stakeholders. By fostering collaborations, these councils aim to leverage diverse expertise and resources to solve pressing issues. Additionally, capacity building will be a cornerstone of their strategy, ensuring that the workforce in Lagos is equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in a digital economy.

A key objective of LASRIC is to promote a culture of innovation within Lagos. Through initiatives like the LASRIC Seed Fund, the council will provide funding and support to startups and innovators. This will not only spur economic growth but also position Lagos as a leader in science and technology.

In today’s digital age, cybersecurity is paramount. The newly inaugurated Cybersecurity Advisory Board, led by Dr. Osakwe Fene, is tasked with safeguarding the state’s digital infrastructure. The board will develop strategies to protect against cyber threats and ensure the resilience of critical systems. Dr. Fene emphasized that robust cybersecurity measures are essential for achieving the goal of making Lagos a 21st-century economy.

The leadership of LASRIC and the Cybersecurity Advisory Board is entrusted to esteemed professionals. Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, Chairman of LASRIC, and Dr. Osakwe Fene, Chairman of the Cybersecurity Advisory Board, have both assured their commitment to the councils' mandates. They highlighted the importance of technology and cybersecurity in driving development and achieving economic goals.
