President Tinubu Pledges to Drop Underperforming Ministers to Meet Nigerian Expectations

In a decisive move to ensure his administration meets the expectations of Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu has vowed to dismiss any cabinet member who fails to perform. Speaking at a meeting with the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to the country's progress and accountability within his government.

"I thank the cabinet members for their efforts, but I will relieve any of them of their duties anytime I feel that they are failing Nigerians," President Tinubu declared.

The President's statement comes amidst growing concerns about the performance of several ministers. Reports indicate that many cabinet members have remained largely invisible since their inauguration last year, with few making notable contributions. Key ministers like those overseeing Interior, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Aviation, Finance, and Works are frequently in the spotlight, actively engaging in their respective duties. However, the silence and inactivity of numerous junior ministers have led to calls for the reevaluation of their roles, with some advocating for the elimination of these positions due to their perceived redundancy.

In his address, President Tinubu also urged state governments to prioritize the needs of local communities, emphasizing the importance of accountability and effective administration at the local government level.

Adding weight to the President's resolve, Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy and Coordination, reaffirmed that non-performing ministers would indeed be removed. Speaking at a technical retreat for delivery desk officers of federal ministries in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Usman underscored the administration's seriousness about fulfilling its promises to the Nigerian people.

"President Tinubu will 'drop' ministers who do not perform up to expectations," Usman stated. She heads the Central Coordinating and Delivery Unit (CDCU), which oversees the implementation of presidential priorities and ministerial deliverables.

This firm stance on accountability and performance is expected to bolster efforts towards achieving the administration's goals and addressing the concerns of Nigerians who demand effective governance.
