EFCC Investigates Kwankwaso Over Alleged Misappropriation of Campaign Funds by NNPP

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated a probe into allegations of misappropriation of campaign funds by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) during the 2023 elections. The investigation targets several high-ranking members of the party, including its presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who previously served as the governor of Kano State, ran for president under the NNPP banner in the 2023 elections, ultimately finishing in fourth place. Recent developments have brought him and his campaign team under scrutiny for alleged financial irregularities.

Reliable sources reveal that the EFCC has summoned the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, to provide evidence supporting the allegations. The investigation focuses on accusations against Senator Kwankwaso and his Private Secretary, Mrs. Folashade Aliu, who is suspected of being a central figure in the alleged diversion of campaign funds through a secret account designated for campaign donations.

The petition, filed by Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, implicates several key figures within the NNPP. Besides Senator Kwankwaso and Mrs. Folashade Aliu, the petition names other signatories to the party’s bank accounts, including Prof. Rufai Alkali, Abba Kawu, and Dipo Olayokun. These individuals are accused of being involved in the misappropriation of party funds, which were intended for the 2023 election campaign.

In his statement, Comrade Oginni confirmed his cooperation with the EFCC and praised the professionalism of the agency's officers. He said:

Truly, I was invited by the EFCC. I honoured the invitation and I was satisfied with the professionalism of EFCC officers. I answered questions related to the petition I signed on behalf of NNPP without any harassment or intimidation. They want to be sure that the allegations are true and without any ill motives. We are very sure that Nigeria is in a very safe stance with these crops of EFCC officers who are ready to get rid of corruption at Nigeria high places without sacred cows."

The investigation by the EFCC into the alleged financial misconduct within the NNPP underscores the agency’s commitment to addressing corruption at all levels of governance and political activity in Nigeria. If the allegations are substantiated, it could lead to significant repercussions for the implicated individuals and possibly affect the party’s credibility and future political endeavors.

As the EFCC continues its investigation, the public and political analysts will be closely watching the developments. The outcome of this probe could have far-reaching consequences for the New Nigeria People’s Party and its leadership. The EFCC’s actions reinforce the message that financial integrity and accountability are paramount in Nigeria’s political landscape.

This developing story serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in the fight against corruption and the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability within political parties and their operations.
