JAMB Announces 2024 UTME Results with More Female Candidates Surpassing Male Participation

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially declared the results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing a historic milestone in gender representation among examinees.

JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed the statistics during a press conference at the JAMB headquarters in Bwari, Abuja. This year, the examination attracted over 1.94 million registrants who tested their readiness for university admission across more than 700 centers in 118 towns nationwide. The series of exams, which ran from April 19 to April 29, noted a substantial turnout with only 80,810 registered candidates absent.

"Out of the 1,842,464 results that we have released, only 0.4% of candidates scored above 300, highlighting the competitive nature of the examination," Oloyede explained. Furthermore, 24% of candidates scored 200 or more, constituting 50% of the total possible score. Conversely, a significant 76% did not meet the 200-point mark.

In an interesting development, the gender demographics shifted this year, with female candidates numbering 1,007,275, surpassing the 982,393 male candidates. This marks the first time in three years that female participation has exceeded that of males. "It is evident that there is a significant improvement in female enrolment, crossing the one million mark," Oloyede added.

Additionally, this year's exams saw an increase in the participation of Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD), with registrations up by 36.2% from the previous year, totaling 3,164.

**Checking UTME 2024 Results: A Simple Process**

JAMB has streamlined the results checking process for the 2024 UTME. Candidates can access their results by texting 'UTMERESULT' to either 55019 or 66019 using the same mobile number that was registered with. This method alleviates the need for visiting Computer-Based Test centers or cybercafés, ensuring candidates can easily access their scores.

"As we continue to uphold the integrity of our examinations, we also prioritize the privacy and achievements of our candidates by refraining from publicizing the names of top scorers," stated Oloyede, emphasizing JAMB's view of the UTME as a preliminary ranking examination rather than a conclusive merit list.

This release marks a critical juncture for numerous young Nigerians eager to proceed with their educational aspirations, reflecting not only their personal achievements but also broader trends in educational participation across the country.
