Breaking News: FG Approves Salary Increase for Civil Servants

The Federal Government has authorized a salary increase of 25% to 35% for Civil Servants under six specific Consolidated Salary Structures. These structures include the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

This adjustment follows earlier salary enhancements granted to sectors such as Tertiary Education and Health. Universities have previously seen increases under the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) and the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS). For Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, raises were applied under the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS). The Health Sector received increases through the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Additionally, a pension increase ranging from 20% to 28% has been approved for retirees under the Defined Benefits Scheme corresponding to the aforementioned salary structures. Both the salary and pension increases are scheduled to commence on January 1, 2024, according to a statement from Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC).
